This training capsule and similar Apollo command modules were made of boilerplate steel weighing nearly 9,000 lbs. They were designed to train Navy personnel for retreival purposes. Paul Spark practiced with a space capsule like this for the mission of Apollo XVI. On April 29th, 1972 Mr. Spark had assisted in that recovery. To the best of our knowledge, there are only four space capsules still in exsistence. The rest have been destroyed for scrap metal. One of these four capsules is held at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Another is privately owned by Professor David B. Allen. The third is on display at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Last but not least, this fourth remaining capsule is welded to a stand in front of the Dairy Queen in Franklin, PA!
Due to the overall weight of this space capsule, it will need to be picked up by the successful bidder, in Franklin PA. This will require a small crane to lift it and a flat bed truck to set it on so it can be transported to whereever the successful bidder wants it delivered. Shipping will be the sole responsibility of the buyer!
